I think traditions are so important. Traditions are what memories are made of. I want my kids to look back on their childhood and remember that we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus every year on Christmas. Christmas cookies put out for Santa every year before bed were a must. New jammies and a game that we played on Christmas Eve were a must have. Decorating the house the day after Thanksgiving.
These are just a couple of the traditions I have set up for our family. I would love to add some more. Would you please share what your family does every year to make those special memories?
I now know I have five readers, so I'm expecting at least five comments.

I love traditions too! Unfortunately and it does bug me that we haven't set up many. More than me giving you suggestions, I think I shall reflect over this a bit today and even discuss it with mike!
I'm glad for this "experimenal" time where we can play around with different ones too.
One I like to do is get blizzards and go look at Christmas lights - good one, eh??!!!
I think our traditions are the same as yours. Because I got mine from you, since we are family and all!
We get our Christmas tree the weekend of Thanksgiving. (not that it makes it up that same weekend...but close)
I liked that wrapping presents with a friend tradition..then she decided to move to far away. ;)
We all have to go down the stairs together! Must. No cheating and seeing all the fun before everyone is up.
Christmas Traditions . . . hmmm. Well I gain five pounds every year. The kids whine everyday about presents. And Matt and I stay up til the wee hours in the morning assembling and wrapping presents.
Hi Kristan! Gary insists on a fresh tree, he takes the kids and off they go the weekend after Thanksgiving. Advent calendars are a must. Cinniamon rolls Christmas morning, store bought or homemade. Opening one present Christmas Eve. Gingerbread houses...used to do a kit, started making our own a few years back.
I love traditions like the next person and I know they are so important to kids. But I do try to not get to weighed down in them becuase guilt can set in if we don't follow through with everything.
Can't wait to hear about your new traditions this season.
This is our first year in Illinois so we're making our own traditions this year. Mike has to work Thanksgiving day, the day after and Christmas Eve & Christmas Day so I am working on being creative with food & holiday stuff like looking at neighborhood lights, watching Holiday Inn and White Christmas, and Charlie Brown Christmas.
For Thanksgiving we have been invited to the house of our new Bible study group and we're so excited! We have friends now in Illinois LOL
We always slept out in the family room around the Christmas tree. Dad would read the Christmas story before we went to bed. I think this is the first year we won't be doing it now that I have a kiddo of my own :-(
My mom always makes chex mix and sugar kuchen (cake). The kuchen is a recipe that has been passed down for several generations in the Sayler family, and I always expect it and look forward to it Christmas morning. it reminds me of my great-grandma. :) in our immediate family we've also started the tradition of putting a wrapped book at the ends of our kids' beds to find on Christmas morning--some people give PJs on Christmas eve. We give a book on christmas morning. :)
