Let me start out this post by saying the worst thing I can ever imagine happening to me while I am pregnant is visiting the dentist. Who wants to be seven months pregnant and have their mouth poked in? Well apparently my dentist thought I was the perfect pregnant person to undergo this.
Let me take you back to last week. My wonderful friend Leslie and I were talking on Tuesday evening about the dentist and how we hate going until we are in pain. Well, you guessed it at 3:00 in the morning I was awoken by a horrible tooth ache. The next morning I went into the dentist and he said you really need a root canal and I just happen to have a cancellation how about we do it now. SURE, why not!!!!!! 2 1/2 hours later I thought the story had ended. I left the dentist office with the idea of returning after the baby is born to get the permanent crown put in. In fact I even said to the dentist have a great Christmas because I won't be seeing you till January. Well the joke was on me. Two days later my filling fell out so I scheduled an appointment to go back in and have it fixed. Let me make this story clear as far as I knew the root canal was done and I had a perfect tooth again.
When I scheduled my appointment the women said plan about two hours. For some reason I didn't seem to question that.
When I arrived today at 9:30 the dentist said ok lets finish up that root canal. WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! I am done with it, we finished it last week. Well, apparently we didn't. I learned alot today about a root canal. There are four roots and two of mine were really stuck so he wasn't able to get them last week. I wish he would of told me. He said lets try again and if I can't get them then I will send you out to a specialist. I am so happy to report that 4 1/2 hours later he was able to clean all four out. Yes, I said 4 1/2 hours!!!!!!!!! Upside down in major pain for 4 1/2 hours. At the moment all I have is tylenol to cut the pain. Let me tell you it barely even touches the pain.
Well, I just really wanted to write this down so you all can feel sorry for me. I also want to put it in Logan's baby book so he can see what a hero I am.

You ARE a hero!!! I can't believe you had to undergo such trauma in your 3rd trimester of pregnancy! That's horrible, Kristan. I definitely feel sorry for you...I could not even imagine.
But I have a question, though...Would you rather go to the Gyno or the Dentist?
LOL!
OOOOh! NOOOOO! Root canals...the horror!!!! Have I got a story for you...but not until your saga is over.
Logan will be soo brave and will love, love going to the dentist. It's my prediction. You'll remember in about four or five years when he's excited about his first appointment.
That is the worst story I've ever heard.
I can't take any more dental blogs, it's just not helping my phobia at all.
I don't do well for 4.5 minutes at the dentist, much less 4.5 hours. You are my hero today.
Kristan, knowing this, I cannot believe you came to Bible study tonight! And I also can't believe that I joked, "Hey Kristan! Did you have a root canal today?" And you said, "Yes!" I think that was one of the funniest moments ever! A "For Reals" moment! You are amazing!
You are a hero! Logan is going to love his first experience at the dentist with Mommy! :)

Okay, I just thought of this today since Morgan's birthday is coming up. I was in labor and she was born in less time than your 4.5 hour root canal. Now that's a bad doctor's visit.
I mean a bad dentist's visit.
That mistake just ruined the funny of my comment.
I really don't like the dentist either. I'm so happy that you got your root canal though and its done and over with!
I actually just got a tooth pulled it was a molar :( it was hard to say good-bye but I couldn't wait till we saved up enough money for a root canal. We don't have the best dental coverage. So anyways the pain from a tooth ache is unbearable to me. I can't imagine how hard it would be if your prego and can only have tylenol.
POOR KRISTAN!!! I'm so sorry for you! But, way to be tough!
P.S. Does a root canal require ice cream or soft, yummy treats? I think it just might! Or maybe Starbucks will help manage the pain???
I too had a root canal once and was shocked by how long it took. Apparently, I have one very tiny body part - my teeth. The dentist had to special order a smaller file because nothing she had would get too the very far ends of my teeny tiny roots. She spent hours filing and filing over three visits. She was so tired of the tedious fine hand work that she had to take multiple breaks. All the while, my very small mouth is pried open as wide as it could go (not very, I might add) and the tooth is isolated by this piece of rubber with a small hole in the middle. The outer edges of the rubber piece were supported by a hard plastic frame. She called it a rubber dam. When she was FINALLY done, I asked if she could take the "dam thing" out!
I hate the denist so much....I couldn't even finsh reading your post. Sorry but you lost me at drilling.
PS I heart dr. Gyno.
